12/31/2018 - Benjamin William Janis

Funeral services for Benjamin William Janis, age 71, will be at 10:00 AM on Monday, December 31, 2018 at the Wounded Knee District School in Manderson, SD with Joyce Tibbitts and Bill White officiating. Traditional Lakota services will be provided by Richard Broken Nose.
 
Burial will be at the Janis Family Cemetery in Manderson, SD.
 
A one-night wake service will begin at 3:30 PM on Sunday, December 30, 2018 at the Wounded Knee District School in Manderson, SD with vigil services starting at 7:00 PM. Military Roll Call will follow.
 
Benjamin was a veteran in the U.S. Army.
 
Benjamin was born on December 28, 1946 in Pine Ridge, SD to Benjamin J. Janis and Isabelle Clara (Clifford) Janis. He made his journey to the Spirit World on December 26, 2018 at the Fort Meade VA Hospital in Sturgis, SD.
 
Benjamin is survived by children Benjamin Joseph Janis of Manderson, SD, Arlen Ray Janis of Rapid City, SD, and Lorilei Pauline Janis of Porcupine, SD; brothers Lawrence Janis of Hill City, SD, Terry Janis of Fargo, ND, and Anthony Janis of Manderson, SD; sisters Kathleen Hayes of Albuquerque, NM, Delores Starr and Rosalie Janis of Manderson, SD, Linda Janis of Flandreau, SD, and Janice Roman of Kinnear, WY; grandchildren Nichole Janis, William Janis, Virgil Janis, Arlen Janis Jr., Nevada Janis, Cassidy Janis, Kelley Janis, Peyton Janis, Erin Janis, Paige Janis, Jasey Provost, Ashton Provost, and Kaylee Provost; great-grandchildren Aubrey Janis, Maria Janis, Violet Janis, and Amelia Janis; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
 
Benjamin was preceded in death by parents Benjamin J. and Isabelle (Clifford) Janis and nephew Teddy Lou Janis.

Sioux Funeral Home of Pine Ridge, SD is in charge of arrangements for Benjamin William Janis.
