Funeral services for Joseph Carl Bettelyoun Jr. “Ota Ciye Wicakeye,” age 68, will be at 1:00 PM on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at the Batesland School Gym in Batesland, SD. Traditional Lakota services will be provided by Sidney Has No Horse.
Burial will be at the Knight Cemetery in Batesland, SD.
A two-night wake service will begin at 3:00 PM on Thursday, January 17, 2019 at the Batesland School Gym in Batesland, SD with a prayer service starting at 7:00 PM.
Joseph was a veteran in the U.S. Army.
Joseph was born on June 1, 1950 in Pine Ridge, SD to Joseph Bettelyoun Sr. and Gladys (Richards) Bettelyoun. He made his journey to the Spirit World on January 10, 2019 at Rapid City Regional Hospital in Rapid City, SD.
Joseph is survived by wife Mona Bettelyoun of Rapid City, SD; daughters Joey Bettelyoun, Judy Sierra, and Margaret Sierra of Rapid City, SD; sons Travis and JayDee Bettelyoun of Rapid City, SD; sister Sue Bettelyoun of Rapid City, SD; brothers Marlin and Michael Parmenter of Batesland, SD; numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Joseph was preceded in death by parents Joseph Sr. and Gladys Bettelyoun; son Fonzy Bettelyoun; daughter Nancy J. Bettelyoun; brothers Terry and Yogi Bettelyoun and George Ghost Bear; and sister Madonna Bettelyoun.
Pallbearers will be Cody Bettelyoun, Joseph Bettelyoun, Myles Dillon, Lyle Dillon, Will Dillon, R.J. Williams, John Conroy, Louis Bettelyoun, Mervin Colhoff, and Nate Colhoff.
