Funeral services for Lyle Ray Waters “Kola Ya’ pi’ Waste,” age 41, will be at 10:00 AM on Monday, February 25, 2019 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church Hall in Pine Ridge, SD with Father Ed Hunt and Lay Minister Anthony Wounded Head officiating. Traditional Lakota services will be provided by Rob Lawrence, Rob Waters and Tim Mesteth.

Burial will be at the Waters’ Rodeo Arena in Pine Ridge, SD.

A one-night wake service will begin at 4:00 PM on Sunday, February 24, 2019 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church Hall in Pine Ridge, SD.

Lyle was born on May 12, 1977 in Gordon, NE to Shannon L. Palmier and Lester Waters. He made his journey to the Spirit World on February 17, 2019 at his home in Pine Ridge, SD.

Lyle was raised in Pine Ridge and lived by the Western and Cowboy way of life. He was known for his humor and welcoming character, which made many lifelong friends through the love of horses and rodeo.

Lyle attended Red Cloud School throughout his life up to his Junior year, then transferred to Pine Ridge High School where he graduated in 1994.

Lyle had a huge heart and was always the big brother to all the cousins and the father-figure to his nieces and nephews when needed. He was loyal to all the cowboys and cowgirls and was always there to lend a hand or give words of encouragement.

Shortly after High School, Lyle met Angel Black Feather, and upon this union, they had four daughters: Sierra Rose, Sienna Rain, Misty Dawn and Cheyenne Rain. Through him, they’ve been passed down many of his great qualities, his humor, his care for the ranch, his laugh, his distinctive features, and most of all, his generosity.

Lyle is survived by children Sierra Rose Waters, Misty Dawn Waters, and Cheyenne Rain Waters, all of Pine Ridge, SD; hunka children Timothy Waters and Shayonna Waters of Pine Ridge, SD; mother Shannon L. Palmier of Pine Ridge, SD; siblings Lester “Bull” Waters and Cass (Shelly) Waters of Pine Ridge, SD, Cole (Kathy Gray) Waters of Eagle Butte, SD, Melanie (Mitch Brewer) Waters of Rapid City, SD, Michelle “Peaches” Yellow Bird of Pine Ridge, SD, Lucy Real Bird and Family of Garry Owen, MT, Winona (Daniel) Crazy Thunder of Pine Ridge, SD, Bo James Ferguson of Cheyenne Creek, Pine Ridge, SD, John Waters of Sharp’s Corner, SD, and Dena Colhoff of Rapid City, SD; grandfathers Bud Waters of Cheyenne Creek, Pine Ridge, SD and Boy Palmier of Kyle, SD; aunts Lindy Trueblood, Evelyn “Sissy” Eagle Bull, Lloydell “Suzy” Mesteth, Jackie Miller, Lynnel “Lynnie” Eagle Bull, and Darrelyn “Tinky” Steele, all of Pine Ridge, SD, Sharon Waters of Hot Springs, SD, and Mona Waters of Cheyenne Creek, Pine Ridge, SD; uncles Dale “Rawhide” Palmier of Whiteclay, NE, Tom (Troy) Waters of Pine Ridge, SD, Wayne Waters of California, Lonnie Waters of Cheyenne Creek, Pine Ridge, SD, and Forest S. Waters of Ozark, AK; Godso Cole Cash Waters; and several nieces and nephews.

Lyle was preceded in death by father Lester Leon Waters; daughter Sienna Rain Waters; sister Misty Denelle Waters; brother Lonnie Pilcher; horse Luke; dog Roadie; grandmothers Joann (Goings) Waters, Jacklyn (Ecoffey) Palmier, Gladys Ecoffey and Jessie (Waters) Good Shield; aunts Colleen Green and Lynette Palmier; and uncles Darold Waters, Harold Waters, William “Billy” Palmier, Darrell “Jumbo” Waters, and Larry Eagle Bull.  

Pallbearers will be All Cowboys and Indians.

Honorary Pallbearers will be All Rodeo Stock Contractors and Rodeo Friends, All Nieces, Nephews, Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Relatives and Friends.
