Funeral services for Melda Jane (Red Bear) Trejo “Ta Anpetu Waste Win,” age 79, will be at 2:00 PM on Saturday, February 23, 2019 at the Youth Center in Allen, SD with Pastor Tim Wardell officiating. Traditional Lakota services will be provided by Steve DuBray and Albert Red Bear Jr.

Burial will be at the Native American Church Cemetery in Allen, SD.

A two-night wake service will begin at 1:00 PM on Thursday, February 21, 2019 at the Youth Center in Allen, SD.

Melda was born on June 2, 1939 in Allen, SD to Solomon Red Bear and Jessie Slow Dog. She made her journey to the Spirit World on February 11, 2019 in Phoenix, AZ.

Melda is survived by children Robert Trejo, Lucille Barrientos, Debbie Trejo, Ruben Trejo, Barbara Trejo, Jimmy Trejo, and Raeann Trejo; 41 plus grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

Melda was preceded in death by parents Solomon Red Bear and Jessie Slow Dog; spouse Lupe Trejo Sr.; children Manuel Trejo, Raymond Trejo Sr., Marcus Trejo Sr., Lupe Trejo Jr., and Richard Trejo; sisters Lucille Red Bear and Rachel Red Bear; brothers Albert Red Bear Sr., Norman Red Bear Sr., Solomon Red Bear II; twin brother Richard Red Bear; and great-grandson Elijah Trejo.

Pallbearers will be Mitchell Primeaux, Casimiro Rivera, Austin DeSersa, Raymond Trejo Jr., Cameron Trejo, Cleophus Red Bear, Howard Red Bear, Todd Trejo, and Santana Trejo.
