Memorial services for Leota Frandsen, age 83, of Martin, SD will be at 11:00 AM on Monday, June 10, 2019 at Chamberlain-Pier Funeral Home in Gordon, NE.

A memorial has been established for CHART of Bennett County, and donations may be sent to Chamberlain-Pier Funeral Home, PO Box 366, Gordon, NE 69343.

Leota passed away on June 4, 2019 near Tuthill, SD. She was born on September 7, 1935 in Enders, NE to General Lee and Neoma Caroline (Sherman) Hood. She was the 8th of 10 children. They moved around frequently, finally settling in Wolbach, NE. She graduated from Wolbach in 1953. After high school, she taught rural school in Wolbach and then moved to the Sandhills. She then moved to Omaha and worked for Burroughs Photo Lab for three years. She moved back to western Nebraska and taught in rural schools. At the age of 23, she met and married Haskell Frandsen, and to this union were born four children. They lived on a farm northeast of Rushville, NE until 1976 when they moved to Gordon. She worked as a nurse’s aide at the Gordon Hospital. She remained there until 1987 when they moved to Laughlin, NV. While in Laughlin, she did various jobs, finally settling into black jack dealer. She retired in 2002 and hit the road in her RV. In 2007, she moved to the Martin area to be closer to family.
 
Survivors include Rogene Cly, Erik (Sandra) Frandsen, Wynette (Bob) Bolte, and Melanie (Brad) Davis; 8 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren; brothers Harvey (Donna) Hood and Ernest (Roberta) Hood; sisters Clella Williams, Jeannie Mathis, Marty Hall; twin sister Leora Denison; and many children she helped foster over the years.
 
She is preceded in death by husband Haskell, son Kyle, her parents, sister Mary Grace Harris, and brothers Karol Hood and Jack Hood.
