06/25/2019 - Eugene 'Gene' Poor Bear

Funeral services for Eugene “Gene” Thomas Poor Bear, age 63, will be at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, June 25, 2019 at the Allen CAP Office in Allen, SD with Reverend Don Mink officiating.

Graveside services will be at the Inestimable Gift Episcopal Cemetery in Allen, SD.

A two-night wake service will begin with the first night at 4:00 PM on Sunday, June 23, 2019 at the Indian Mission Church of God in Alliance, NE. The second night will start at 2:00 PM on Monday, June 24, 2019 at the Allen CAP Office in Allen, SD, evening services will start at 7:00 PM each night of the wake services.

Gene was born on October 1, 1955 in Pine Ridge, SD to Allen Poor Bear and Ida Iron Crow. He made his journey to the Spirit World on June 15, 2019 at his home in Denver, CO.

Gene grew up in the Allen, SD area and moved to the Denver era in 1973 to attend East HS. He was an extremely skilled artist and did many years of native style modeling for famous Denver area artists, which used his profile to complete beautiful statues, oil paintings, and other sought-after art work. He started dancing Northern Style Traditional in 1979 and started the Medicine Warrior Youth Drum and Dance Troupe in 1989 to help mentor Denver area native youth to prevent native from joining local gangs. He was a spiritual leader and mentor and worked for many years with Eagle Lodge Alcohol and Drug Center.

Eugene is survived by daughter Cheyenne Poor Bear of Denver, CO; grandsons Allen Alford and Raiden Alford of Arvada, CO; and numerous nieces and nephews from numerous locations.

Eugene was preceded in death by son Michael S. Poor Bear; parents Ida Iron Crow and Allen Poor Bear; and sisters Betty Poor Bear, Audrey Poor Bear, and Ethel Poor Bear.

Pallbearers will be Allen Alford, Raiden Alford, Anthony Apodaca, Brent Youman, Angelo Marrufo, Elroy Cross, Elmer Bear Eagle, Percy Youman Jr., and Dominic Moreno.

Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Red Shirt and all his Relatives and Friends.

Sioux Funeral Home of Pine Ridge, SD is in charge of arrangements for Eugene “Gene” Thomas Poor Bear.
