07/08/2019 - Leona Weasel Bear-Young Bull Bear

Funeral services for Leona Evelyn Weasel Bear-Young Bull Bear “Pte San Win,” age 78, will be at 1:00 PM on Monday, July 8, 2019 at the Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church Hall in Kyle, SD with Father Ron Seminara, S.J., and Harold Condon officiating. Traditional Lakota services will be provided by Richard Moves Camp and Francis “Chubbz” Thunder Hawk.

Burial will be at St. Stephen’s Catholic Cemetery in Kyle, SD.

A two-night wake service will begin at 3:00 PM on Saturday, July 6, 2019 at the Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church Hall in Kyle, SD with rosary services starting at 7:00 PM on Saturday evening and prayer services at 7:00 PM on Sunday evening.

There will be a Riders Escort on Saturday, July 6, 2019. Riders will meet at the Top of Kyle Hill at 3:00 PM to escort Leona’s family and friends to the Catholic Hall. On Monday, July 8, 2019, riders will meet at Leona’s Residence three miles north of Kyle, SD in North Route Housing on Hehaka Drive (2nd turn off, first blue house) at 6:30 PM to escort Leona’s family to the St. Stephen’s Catholic Cemetery for a sunset burial.

Leona was born on June 21, 1941 in Corn Creek, SD to Jefferson Weasel Bear and Melvina (New Holy) Weasel Bear. She made her journey to the Spirit World on June 28, 2019 at the I.H.S. Hospital in Pine Ridge, SD.

Leona is survived by sons Victor Young Bull Bear Jr., Lydell (Noreen) Young Bull Bear, Jeremiah (Jennifer) Young Bull Bear, Aleandreaux Shay Peters, and Micah Lamar Peters, all of Kyle, SD; daughters Harriette and Mariette Sharpfish of Oglala, SD, Anastasia Young Bull Bear of Kyle, SD, Thomasadia (Ron) Young Bull Bear of Rapid City, SD, and Evarista (Reuben) Wounded Head of Busby, MT; hunka daughters Cherish In The Woods of Cherry Creek, SD and Anita Polland of California; brother Lester M. Weasel Bear of Oglala, SD; hunka brother Dennis Ballard of Edam, SK, Canada; sisters Paulette Nancy Weasel Bear of Oglala, SD, Connie Weasel Bear-Small Bear of Spring Creek, SD, and Beaulah Matson and Arlette Weasel Bear of Rapid City, SD; hunka sisters Phyllis Wilcox of Wanblee, SD, Mary Loafer of Kyle, SD, Gloria Wilkinson of Browning, MT, and Pearl Capoeman Beller of Taholah, WA; grandchildren Terrilynn, Sundance, Cameron, Jonathan, Delonnie, Natasha, Lakeshia, Jacey, Shantasia, Brant, Tristan, Ember, and Ares Young Bull Bear, Jalen, Keane and Alyssa Pretty Weasel, Erela, Soraya, and Solara Wounded Head, Reagan Jr., Jessica, Marcia, and Aric Short Bull, Carlita, Devin, Vernon, Jewels, Monte, Tory, Misty, and Juan Lakota, Jason, Jefferson, Alexander, and Paula Weasel Bear, Jack, Deidre, Shania, Donald, Terren Mills, and Waylon and Jesse Plenty Holes; nieces Francy Weasel Bear, Florence Black Feather, Olivia Plenty Holes, Xaviera Long Soldier, Jade Marie New Holy and Nancy Loafer; and numerous great-grandchildren.

Leona was preceded in death by husband Victor Young Bull Bear Sr.; son Jason Young Bull Bear; hunka son Burt Kaline; father Jefferson Weasel Bear; mother Melvina New Holy-Weasel Bear; brothers Clifford Weasel Bear and Duane Brewer Sr.; sister Regina Plenty Holes; uncles Owen Weasel Bear and Amil Bull Legs; aunties Alice New Holy, Alice Weasel Bear-Chief Eagle, and Nancy Weasel Bear-Martin; cousins Margaret Chief Eagle and Deloris Yellow Bull; niece Delilah Plenty Holes; and nephew Melvin Plenty Holes Jr.

Pallbearers will be Jefferson Weasel Bear, James Two Crow, Ashley Weasel Bear, Dennis Ballard, Isaiah Weasel Bear, Julian Bear Runner, Michael Weasel Bear-Baker and Reagan Short Bull Jr.
