Funeral services for Joannie Mae Hoof “Kimimila Win” (Butterfly Woman), age 35, will be at 10:00 AM on Friday, August 2, 2019 at the Woyatan Lutheran Church in Rapid City, SD with Pastor Elton Yellow Boy and Emery Arapahoe officiating.

Graveside services will be at 11:30 AM on Friday, August 2, 2019 at the Mountain Calvary Cemetery in Rapid City, SD.

A two-night wake service will begin with the first night starting at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, July 31, 2019 at the Wakpamni CAP Office in Pine Ridge, SD. The second night will begin at 2:00 PM on Thursday, August 1, 2019 at the Woyatan Lutheran Church in Rapid City, SD.

Joannie was born on June 26, 1984 in Pine Ridge, SD to Edna Brown and Carlos Hoof. She made her journey to the Spirit World on July 27, 2019 at the Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD.

Joannie is survived by children Devontae Reyshawn Ghost Dog and Donald Andrew Ghost Dog of Pine Ridge, SD and Lilliya Mae Grace Shavers, Christopher Vince Shavers Jr., Jayceon James Shavers, and Elias Jacob Shavers, all of Sioux Falls, SD; mother Edna Brown of Minneapolis, MN; father Carlos Hoof of Pine Ridge, SD; siblings Jamie Hoof of Minneapolis, MN, Thadeous Hoof of Adrian , MI, Valentino Hoof and Jasmine Hoof of Rapid City, SD, Lassandra Hoof of Sioux Falls, SD, and Desirae Hoof of Gering, NE; grandmother JoAnn Sierra of Pine Ridge, SD; grandfathers Joe Catches and Tuffy Sierrra of Pine Ridge, SD; aunts Mary Ortiz, Adelyn Elk Boy, Marie Red Owl, Earlene Clown Horse, Joyce Wheeler, Trish Yackeschi, Christine Hoof, Shannon Hoof, Quentina Iron Bull, Julia Brown, Bernice Thompson, Ramona Broken Nose, Grace Walker, Geraldine Brown, Sandra Brown, Paula Simpson, Sophie Brown, and Henrietta Brown; uncles Emery Arapahoe Jr., David Arapahoe, Antonio Weston Sr., Joe Hoof, John Eder, Justin Hoof, Red Hoof, Harry Red Bear Brown, Pete Red Bear Brown, Leroy Brown, Marvin Brown, Henry Brown Jr., and Chauncey Brown Jr.; and many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and cousins.

Joannie was preceded in death by brother Carlos James Hoof; grandparents Leroy Hoof, Barbara Hoof, Henry Red Bear Brown Sr., Mae Good Voice Elk Brown, Dale Catches, and Valentino Sierra; uncles Alden Arapahoe, Tom Hoof, Brian Jefferies, Chauncey Brown Sr., Abel George Brown, Henry Aaron Brown, and Clifford Morrison Jr.; aunts Stella Morrison White Antelope and Edna Mae Morrison; special cousins Hoksila Arapahoe, Morning Star Red Kettle, Nicole Lee Red Kettle, and Henrietta Frances Crow; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Pallbearers will be Jasmine Hoof, Valentino Hoof, Jamie Hoof, Aaron Hoof, Eddie Hoof, Antonio Weston Sr., Orville Joseph Hoof, Sandra DuBray, and Naomi Prairie Chicken.
