Funeral services for Margaret Ellen Frances Catches “Ti Waste Win” (My House is Beautiful), age 81, will be at 10:00 AM on Saturday, August 24, 2019 at the Wakpamni CAP Office in Pine Ridge, SD with Father Brad Held, S.J,. and Charles McGaa officiating. Traditional Lakota singers will be Quincy Red Feather and Howard Little Hawk.

Burial will be at the White Butterfly Family Cemetery in Pine Ridge, SD.

A one-night wake service will begin at 4:00 PM on Friday, August 23, 2019 at the Wakpamni CAP Office in Pine Ridge, SD with rosary services starting at 7:00 PM.

Margaret was born on March 6, 1938 in Pine Ridge, SD to Benton Rowland Sr. and Lucy “Wanbli” White Butterfly. She made her journey to the Spirit World on August 17, 2019 at her home near Pine Ridge, SD.

Margaret loved animals. She rescued well over a hundred animals, mostly cats and dogs, from Oakland, CA all the way to Pine Ridge, SD. Margaret loved her animals like they were her children. Each held a special place in her heart. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Margaret is survived by life partner Diane Marsalis; half sister Emma Rowland; cousins Patricia Catches, Cynthia Catches, Marie Elk Boy, Vera Elk Boy, Lula Red Cloud, and Delia Elk Boy; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Margaret was preceded in death by mother Lucy White Butterfly; biological father Benton Rowland Jr.; stepfather Moses Catches; half-siblings Marie Rowland-Pretty Boy, Eugene, Clarence, Rosemay, and Veronica Rowland, and Benton Rowland Jr.; uncle and aunt (who helped raise Margaret) Luke and Louise (White Butterfly) Frogg; and adopted sister Rebecca Waters.

Pallbearers will be Patricia Catches, LaChaylynne Azure, Naveah Fast Horse, Christina Janis, MaDonna Bordeaux, Yolanda Lays Bad, Charity Pretty Boy, Deven Fast Horse, and Bison Steele.

Honorary Pallbearers will be All Friends and Relatives.
