Funeral services for Thomas Dean Lays Hard, age 56, will be at 10:00 AM on Monday, September 23, 2019 at the Community House of Prayer in Kyle, SD with Lay Readers Johnny Wilson and Rita Brown and Reverend Cordelia Red Owl officiating.

Burial will be at the St. Barnabas Episcopal Cemetery in Kyle, SD.

A two-night wake service will begin at 2:00 PM on Saturday, September 21, 2019 at the Community House of Prayer in Kyle, SD with evening services starting at 7:00 PM each night of the wake.

Dean was born on June 25, 1963 in Pine Ridge, SD to Leo Lee Lays Hard Sr. and Caroline Jane (No Neck) Lays Hard. He made his journey to the Spirit World on September 19, 2019 at Sanford USD Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD.

Dean is survived by children Beth Gay, Sage Black Hawk, Lance Black Hawk, Casey Black Hawk and Jill Black Hawk, all of Denver, CO; siblings Jeanette Lays Hard, Marilyn Lays Hard, and Donna Janis, all of Kyle, SD, Kathie St. John and Judy Lays Hard of Rapid City, SD, and Rolland Lays Hard of Sharps Corner, SD; aunt Rena Short Horn of Kyle, SD; and 11 grandchildren.

Dean was preceded in death by parents Leo Sr. and Caroline Lays Hard; daughter Nicole Two Crow; and siblings Leo Lays Hard Jr. and Connie Cutschall.

Pallbearers will be Bill Brave Heart, Keith Kills Straight, Duane Blue Bird, Merle Gomez, Adam Lays Hard, Kevin St. John, Duane Iron Crow, and Ben Apple.

Honorary pallbearers will be DJ Janis, Leon Janis, Tom Janis, Tyler Two Crow, Jerome Two Crow, Caesaer Fire Thunder, Cody St. John, Brandon Mesteth, Kato White Lance, Caitlyn Fraser, Kevin Fraser, David Fraser, Leon Few Tails, Lowell Few Tails, Louis Few Tails Jr., Leroy Few Tails, Lyle Blue Bird, Tommy Blue Bird, Tony Blue Bird, Chuck Hernandez, Ryan Hernandez, Sharps Corner Dialysis Unit, and all friends and relatives.
