Funeral Services for 60-year old James “Charms” Lone Hill Sr will be Saturday, October 26, 2019, at 10:00 at the Porcupine School Gymnasium in Porcupine, SD, with Pastor Stanley Hollow Horn officiating and traditional Lakota services with Chief Leonard Crow Dog

Graveside Services will be at the Porcupine Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Porcupine, SD

A two-night wake service will start at Thursday, Oct 24, at 3:00 at the Porcupine School Gymnasium in Porcupine with evening services starting at 7:00 PM each night.

James “Charms” Lone Hill, Sr. “Wapaha Luta” was born on March 9, 1959 in Gordon, NE to Lewellyn and Ethel (Weston) Lone Hill and made his journey to the Spirit World on October 17, 2019 at the Rapid City Regional Health Home Plus Hospice House in Rapid City, SD.

Charms completed K-8th at Porcupine Day School and graduated in May 1973.  He then attended Pine Ridge High School and graduated in May 1977.  Upon completion of his education, he began employment with the Oglala Sioux Tribe with various programs.  The first was with the Indian Action Program as an auto mechanic, which was his passion then and remained throughout his lifetime.   Charms’ other jobs he held were bus driver and teacher for the Porcupine PCC, Our Lady of Lourdes as a mechanic, and Red Cloud High School as a bus driver.  His last job was with O.S.T. OSHA as their auto mechanic.  Even after he could no longer work because of his health, Charms continued to keep his friends and families vehicles maintained.  He was called the “Car Whisperer.”

Charms married Carol Spider at the Faith Tabernacle Church in Junction City, KS in the fall of 1982.  To this union, two children were born; James Aaron “Jimbo” in 1984 and Sean Richard in 1986.  After eleven years together, Carol made her journey in the fall of 1993.  Charms met Alvina White Bull in 1996 and to this union, Jeannie Rose was born in 1997.

Charms is survived by his children, Sean Lone Hill, Jeannie Lone Hill, Pauline Spider, Anna White Bull, and Lawrence Vigil; siblings, Sidney Lone Hill, Lester Lone Hill, Karen Lone Hill, Leonard Lone Hill, and Louella Lone Hill; aunt, Eleanor Weston; 5 grandchildren; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Charms was preceded in death by his son, James “Jimbo”; wife, Carol; parents, Lewellyn and Ethel (Weston) Lone Hill; brothers, Dean Lone Hill and Lamoine Pulliam; sister, Verla Mae Lone Hill; grandparents, Sidney and Bessie (Rock) Lone Hill and Reuben and Susanne (White Bull) Weston; great grandparents, Amos and Sally (Robinson) Lone Hill, Samuel and Mary (Grass) Rock; Samuel K. and Martha (Red Wing) Weston; and Richard and Ella (Pine Bird) White Bull.

Pallbearers will be Martin Pilcher, Justin Pourier, Andre Mills, Wayne Cournoyer, Steve Ross, and Andre Janis.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dusty LeBeau & Family, Verola Spider & Family, Curtis & Beulah White Crane & Family, Vina Andrews & Family, Johnny Gibbons & Family, Emerson Spider, Jr. & Family, May White Bull & Family, Sylvia Brown & Family, Rose Standing Bear & Family, Bear Runner Family, Adams Family, Toni Morton & Children, Bob Lone Elk & Family, Warren Giago & Family, Two Eagle Family, Weston Family, All Sundancers, Rockyford Royals “RFR” Baseball Team, and All Friends & Relatives.
