Funeral Services for 82-year old Marlene Faith Barker-Backs will be Saturday, November 16, 2019 at 10:00 at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church Hall in Kyle, SD, with the Rev. Cordelia Red Owl and Fr. Ed Hunt officiating.

Graveside services will be at St. Barnabas Episcopal Cemetery, Kyle, SD

A one-night wake service starting will be held Friday, November 15, 2019  at 4:00 PM, at Our Lady Of Sorrows Catholic Church in Kyle, SD, with evening services at 7:00 PM.


Marlene Faith Barker-Backs was born on May 31, 1937 in Pine Ridge, SD to Evans and Sara (Brown Bull) Barker.  Marlene made her journey to the Spirit World on November 12, 2019 at the Regional Health Home Plus Hospice House in Rapid City, SD.
    
Marlene graduated from OCS in 1956 and graduated from the Indian School of Practical Nursing in 1959 in Albuquerque, NM.  She was employed in various medical hospitals and was a community health representative on both the Pine Ridge and Rosebud Reservations.  She retired from Loneman School as the school nurse.  

Marlene is survived by her spouse, Nason Backs of Oglala, SD; children, Patricia Foote of Eagle Butte, SD, Georgia Foote of Newtown, ND, Lynette (Jesus) Foote of Grand Island, NE, Evans (Holly) Flammond of Oglala, SD, and Twila (Clinton) Santiago of Rapid City, SD; sister, Carol Cloud Eagle of Box Elder, SD; nieces, Debbie Jensen of Albuquerque, NM and Janice Jensen of Box Elder, SD; grandchildren, Delane Foote of Bismarck, ND, Lena Foote of Hastings, NE, Donna (Toby) Illspaugh of Grand Island, NE, Rigoberto Flammond of Rapid City, SD, Cheyenne (Sergio) Santiago of Grand Island, NE, Samantha Santiago of Newtown, ND, Mireya Alvarado of Rapid City, SD, Nathanina Alvarado of Rapid City, SD, Benjamin (Desiree) Jensen of Albuquerque, NM, Wayne (Kayla) Martin of Grand Island, NE, and Jada Clifford of Box Elder, SD; great grandchildren, Agustin, David, Elena, Natasha, Agusto, Bryan, Sophie, George, Bernice, Gabriel, Jocelyn, Isabelle, Alex, Samuel Antthony, Rosalina, Ayona, Roderick, Emma, James and Jordan.

Marlene was preceded in death by her mother and father, Evans and Sara (Brown Bull) Barker; her daughter, Sara Foote; her siblings, Larry Evans Barker, Luverne Barker, Beverly Barker, and two infants in infancy; grandson, Anthony Foote; great grandson, Emilio Reyes; grandparents, Thomas and Lena (Glenn) Brown Bull, Alfred and Sophie (Messar) Barker; and her beloved dogs, Elvira, Itchie, Flap Jack, and Gus.

Pallbearers will be Evans Flammond, Sr., Clinton Neiss, Sr., Harold Brown Bull, Cedric Broken Nose, Joe Welch, Wayne Martin, Edward Flammond, Leslie Two Bulls, Delane Foote, and Rigoberto Ruiz.

Honorary pallbearers will be all family, friends, & relatives.
