Funeral services for Richard Lynn "Butch" Janis are Saturday, July 18, 2020 at 11:00 AM at the Carolyn Janis Residence located 1 mile North of Kyle, SD with Mr John Bush officiating and traditional Lakota services by Mr Lance Christensen

Butch Janis was a veteran of the U-S Army and his burial services will follow at 2:00 PM at the Lakota Freedom Veterans Cemetery near Kyle, SD.

A one-night wake service starts Friday, July 17, 2020 at 5:00 PM at the Carolyn Janis residence located 1 mile North of Kyle, SD

Richard Lynn "Butch" Janis "Ozuye Tahinsni" was born on November 26, 1946 in Pine Ridge, SD to Richard H. Janis and Carolyn F. (Ferguson) Janis.  Richard made his journey to the Spirit World on July 7, 2020 at the Bennett County Hospital in Martin, SD.

Richard is survived by his mother, Carolyn F. Janis; spouse, Marlene J. Janis; daughters, Lynn F. (Philip Zimiga, Sr.) Janis; Novlyn R. (Daniel Bull Bear) Janis; Alicia R. (Mohamed Komi) Janis-Komi; and Whisper L. (Paul Kochutin) Janis; sons, Christopher L. (Claire Blue Thunder) Janis, Peter R. Janis, and Aiden L. Janis; siblings, Joan Townsend, Donna (John) Heathershaw, and Kim Janis; and grandchildren, Phillip R. Zimiga, Jr., Marrissa D. Zimiga, Kadin W. Zimiga, Autumn R. Zimiga, Angelina C. Janis, Daniel C. Bull Bear, Nathaniel R. Bull Bear, Marella J. Bull Bear, Lilly J. Bull Bear, Ajab M. M. Komi, Nove'Ah J.N. Komi, Kiron K.G. Komi, Haizley J.B. Komi, and Logan P. Kochutin.

Richard was preceded in death by his father, Richard H. Janis; brother, John T. Janis; grandparents, Edward & Ellen Janis and John & Alice Ferguson; aunts, Ethlyn Hunter, Kay Ferguson, Dorothy Price, Edna Cook, Aurea Anderson, and Theresa; uncles, Joe Janis, Franklin Ferguson, John "Bud" Ferguson, Fred "Buzzy" Ferguson, Leonard "Boob" Ferguson, Robbie Janis, Edward Janis, Otto Janis, and James Janis; niece, Katelinn Thiry; nephew, Shane L. Hodson; and grandchild, Keidaee Komi.

Pallbearers will be Justin Janis, Greg Janis, Jr., Darcy Janis, Troy Ferguson, Shon Janis, Willie Ferguson, Tommy Janis, Craig Janis, Jr., Crenten Janis, Mike Christensen, Wade Cuny, and Owen Ferguson.  

Honorary pallbearers will be Tommy & Josephine Janis, Albert Janis, Theresa Ferguson, Ellen Cuny, Bea Tarperi, Neil Davis, George Davis, Jr., Wilbur Witt, James Christensen, and All Relatives & Friends.
