Funeral services for 34-year old Joshua David Cuny-Bird Bear are Wednesday, July 15, 2020 at 10:00 AM at the Caroline Cuny residence in Porcupine, SD, with traditional Lakota services by Mr Ivan Looking Horse

Burial Services:  St. Paul’s Catholic Cemetery, Porcupine, SD

A one-night wake service starts Tuesday, July 14, 2020 at 5:00 PM, also at the Caroline Cuny residence in Porcupine

Joshua David Cuny-Bird Bear was born on May 9, 1986 in Logan, UT to Duane Bird Bear and Caroline Cuny. Joshua made his journey to the Spirit World on July 4, 2020 in Martin, SD.

Joshua is survived by his mother, Caroline V. Cuny of Porcupine, SD; spouse, Nakina Yellow Hair of Martin, SD; daughters, Ataliya Cuny, Jayalynn Cuny, and Summer Yellow Hair all of Martin, SD; sons, Joshua Cuny, II and Arlan Cuny both of Martin, SD; siblings, Lynn (Phil Zimiga) Janis and Chris (Claire Blue Thunder) Janis both of Kyle, SD, Jeremy Cuny of Porcupine, SD, Duane Bird Bear, Jr. of Sweden, Aaron Bird Bear of Wisconsin, and Jason Bird Bear and Justin Bird Bear both of Phoenix, AZ; aunts, Sharon Martin of Porcupine, SD, Lillian Cuny and Jacquie Arpan both of Rapid City, SD, Madonna Cuny of Pine Ridge, SD, Connie Holiday of Dante, SD, and Joletta Bird Bear and Theodora Bird Bear both of Mandaree, ND; uncle, Ted Cuny of or Porcupine, SD; and nieces and nephews, Phillip Zimiga, Jr., Marrissa Zimiga, Hailey Cuny, Kadin Zimiga, Autumn Zimiga, and Angelina Janis.

Joshua was preceded in death by his father, Duane Bird Bear; grandparents, Margaret E. Cuny and Elton Ted Cuny and Theodore and Inez (Grinnell) Bird Bear; cousins, Waylon Williamson and Alan Ray Holiday; and aunts, Carmel Cuny-Mesteth, Rose Marie Cuny, and Celeste Lorraine Cuny.

Pallbearers will be David Fire Thunder, Charles Holiday, Jesse Cuny, Thomas Zephier, Michael Arpan, Gabriel Means, Levi Mesteth III, Phillip Zimiga II, Steven Ross, Jacob Running Shield, Arlan Cuny, and Joshua Cuny, II.
