Trenton Wade Bettelyoun was born at 8:45 am on September 14, 1978 in Rapid City, SD to Edward & Cheryl (DeSersa) Bettelyoun, Sr. of Long Valley, SD. As a young boy, he participated in many activities. He was an active member of the Boy Scouts. He won numerous awards for good attendance, Student of the Week, Excellence in Wood Shop and Outstanding Achievement in Reading, Math, and Language Arts. He was also awarded certificates for participation in Project Achieve, Amateur Athletic Union and DARE. He also played little league with the Rushmore Baseball Team. He was known for his humorous and easy-going character.

As a young man, Trent enjoyed fishing with his friends and fixing old cars. He had a true talent for art. Many of his paintings were of horses and Native American objects. He also created many beautiful decorative craft pieces. He had a big heart and was kind to all that he met. He could meet a stranger and make a new friend easily.

His family recalls fond memories of Trent. Some of these include his natural curiosity. He often would take apart toys and put them back together just to see how they worked. He was usually filled with laughter and had a love for animals. He also had a natural gift for working with horses.

Trent received his GED in 1997. He attended Oglala Lakota College for two years. He will be sorely missed by his family and friends. He will always be remembered for his humor, kindness, and optimistic spirit. He passed into the spirit world on Thursday, January 31, 2008.
