Memorial Services for Mabel F. Thayer, age 88, of Scottsbluff will be Wednesday, March 12, 2008 at 10:00 AM at Residency Care Center Chapel area in Scottsbluff with Pastor Matthew Parker officiating. Graveside services and interment will be at the Harrison Cemetery family plot in Harrison at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, March 12th. Memorials may be sent to the Methodist Church in Harrison, or the First United Methodist Church in Scottsbluff. Online condolences may be offered to the family at www.jolliffefuneralhome.com.
Mabel was born January 26, 1920 to Chauncey and Addie (Hodge) Wolff in Crawford, Nebraska. She grew to womanhood in the Whitman, Wyoming area, graduating from high school at Lusk, Wyoming. She married Charles Thayer, December 1, 1939.
Charles and Mabel made their home on the Thayer ranch northeast of Harrison, where they raised their five children while farming and ranching. Charles died in 1973 and Mabel moved to Harrison the following year. She worked as a secretary for the County Superintendent of Schools from 1965 to 1979. She was Site Manager of the Harrison Senior Center from 1982 until she moved to Scottsbluff in February 1993.
Mabel was a former member of the Rebecca Lodge and of the Five Points Project Club. She was also a member of the school board for Sioux County District 6 for 12 years. She was an active member of the Harrison Ladies Community Club and the Methodist Church Evening Circle. She served as Nebraska Silver Haired Senator from District 49 for 10 years, and a Life member of the National Council of Silver Haired Legislators. Mabel was a Charter member of the Advisory Council for the Aging Office of Western Nebraska formed in 1980. She was a member of the West Nebraska Hospital Auxiliary since 1978 and was a volunteer starting in 1993.
Mabel was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Scottsbluff at the time of her death.

Children- Ron and wife Ruth Thayer of Morrill, NE; Gary and wife Lona Thayer of Harrison, NE; Janice and husband Don Lampert of Douglas, WY; Dale Thayer of Douglas, WY; Kathy and husband David Gombas of Silver Spring, MD. Grandchildren- 7 Great Grandchildren-11 Nieces & Nephews- Numerous Jolliffe Funeral Home of Scottsbluff, NE is in charge of arrangements.
