Sharon L. Peters, age 73, passed away peacefully in Hyannis on April 3, 2008, after a short battle with pancreatic cancer.  Visitation will be Tuesday at the Church in Whitman, Nebraska, from 9am until service time.

Funeral Services will be Tuesday, April 8, 2008, at the Whitman Community Church in Whitman, Nebraska, with cake and coffee to follow at the Whitman Women's Club.  Come comfortable!  A memorial has been established to the Whitman Cemetery Fund for the chain-link fence or memorials may be given to a charity of the donor's choice.  Burial will be in the Whitman Cemetery. Officiating will be Pastor Vonne Andersen.

Sharon Lee Henderson was born December 30, 1934, at the Johnson Maternity  Home in Hyannis.  She was the eldest child of Floyd E. and Rosella S.(Grouns) Henderson.  She grew up on the family ranch north of Whitman, helping with all the chores of ranching including being her dad's "horse wrangler".

When she was 6 years old, her brother Larry joined the family.  Sharon attended St. Agnes Academy in Alliance, graduating in 1952; she attended Chadron State and Wayne State Colleges.  She married Edward B. "Ted" Jeary on September 13, 1955 in Lincoln, Nebraska.  To this union, five children were born: Joyce in 1956, Jean in 1957, Joan in 1958, Jana in 1959, and Clark in 1961.   They established a home north of Hyannis on a ranch purchased by Ted's father where they raised Angus cattle and Arabian horses.  Ted and Sharon were divorced in 1972, and Sharon moved to Hyannis, establishing a home on a sandbur patch next to the football field, which she turned into a lush, green 4-1/2 acre lawn that required 8 hours a week to mow.  She married Richard "Dick" Peters on September 3, 1974, in Bridgeport, Nebraska.  Sharon and Dick built Dick's Repair Shop into a thriving business in Hyannis.  On the weekends, they liked to fish and go to antique auctions.  They also traveled to Hawaii three times and various other destinations in the U.S.  While her kids were in school, she was always taking a carload of students to an away game, or tournament, a spelling bee, or a speech meet.  Sharon was very active in the American Legion Auxiliary and served on the council at the United Church of Christ in Hyannis for many years.  She helped with numerous community events, including Windmill Country Days, March of Dimes dance, and hosting Easter egg hunts on her lawn for many years.

Sharon's passions were gardening , making salsa, collecting windmill art, and mowing lawns.  She particularly enjoyed getting together with her grandkids.  No holiday or birthday ever went uncelebrated; no thank you note ever went unwritten.

Sharon is survived by her husband of 33 years, Dick, of Hyannis; her brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Carolynn Henderson of Whitman; children Joyce Dohse of Scottsbluff, Jean Parker of rural Gordon, Joan and Dan Pruitt of Wichita Falls, Texas, Jana Benson of Alliance, Clark Jeary of rural Hyannis, Rick and Risa Peters of North Platte, Rob and Melody Peters of Alliance, and Tammy DeVoogd of Alliance; grandchildren Cody and Dani Pruitt of Texas, Taylor and Tessa of Alliance, Skylar Dohse of Minatare, Fred, Becky, and Sandy Peters of North Platte, Danielle DeVoogd of Alliance, Christina Peters of Denver, Colroado, Tara Pierson of Denver and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents Rosella and Floyd Henderson, son-in-law Howard Parker and grandson Waylon DeVoogd.
